Citrix Workspace App (formerly Citrix Receiver) is the client component of XenDesktop and XenApp, developed by Citrix Systems. It was released initially in 2009.
We are unable to remove an incorrect version of Citrix XenApp Weg Plugin that was downloaded last week. It states 'preparing to remove', then another window comes up to say 'Please wait while Windows.

Citrix Receiver is the client component of XenDesktop or XenApp.[1] Devices with Receiver installed are able to access full desktops via XenDesktop or individual applications via XenApp from a centralized host, such as a server or cloud infrastructure.[2] The product's intended users are employees.[3]
- Clean up shortcuts and stub programs for current user. SelfService.exe –reconnectapps. Reconnect to any existing sessions the user has. By default happens at launch time and app refresh time. SelfService.exe –disconnectapps. Disconnect any current HDX sessions. SelfService.exe –createproviderStoreName StoreURL. Create a provider.
- Navigate the list of applications until you locate Citrix Workspace(DV) or simply click the Search field and type in 'Citrix Workspace(DV)'. If it exists on your system the Citrix Workspace(DV) app will be found automatically. After you click Citrix Workspace(DV) in the list, the following data about the program is available to you.
Citrix Receiver is not a standalone product and is included with XenApp and XenDesktop.[4]
Reviews praised Citrix Receiver's reasonably fast loading time[5] and flexibility in allowing remote desktop access from many different computer and mobile platforms.[6] However, reviewers also criticized the iPhone version of the software for the difficulty of formatting text and prolonged typing, tasks that normally required a keyboard and mouse.[6] The iPad version had similar accessibility issues, and the performance of Flash applications was very limited.[5] As a remedy, Citrix developed a mouse for iOS devices.[7]

As of August 2018, Citrix Workspace app has replaced Citrix Receiver.Citrix Workspace app is a new client from Citrix that works similar to Citrix Receiver and is fully backward-compatible with your organization’s Citrix infrastructure. Citrix Workspace app provides the full capabilities of Citrix Receiver, as well as new capabilities based on your organization’s Citrix deployment.

Prior to Receiver, Citrix had a different client for each of its products. The company developed Receiver to handle the management of those clients.[9] Citrix Receiver was announced in 2009 and the first version became available later that year.[10] Citrix Receiver won several mobility awards after its release, including a CRN Appy and 'Best of Interop' award for Wireless & Mobility in 2011,[11] and a Global Mobile Award in 2012.[12] As of August 2018, Citrix Workspace app has replaced Citrix Receiver[13]

Upgrade from Receiver 3.x Enterprise to Receiver 4.4 or later
The Receiver Cleanup Utility is run by default as part of Graphical User Interface installation. Smarter ecommerce: custom gift cards.
To run the Receiver Cleanup Utility when installing Citrix Receiver using a command line installation, run the following switch:
CitrixReceiver.exe /RCU /Silent
Note: When you upgrade Citrix Receiver for Windows from 13.x (non-Enterprise) or 4.2 to Version 4.2 or later, the /rcu switch is unnecessary and ignored.
Upgrade from Receiver 3.x Enterprise to Receiver 4.3 or earlier
Use Windows group policy to remove the older version and retain app shortcuts and other types of customization. For instruction on upgrade, refer to the Upgrade Guide.
Upgrading to the Receiver 4.x series
Upgrade from Receiver 4.1 and later to the latest Receiver 4.x and above
Note: Group policy settings are retained during this upgrade.

Plug-in support
Upgrading to Citrix Receiver 4.3 or later retains supported plug-ins that are installed on the client machine.
The following plug-ins are tested for post-upgrade functionality:
- Citrix Real Time Media Engine (RTME)
- Microsoft VDI plug-in for Skype for Business (formerly, Lync)
- Citrix NetScaler Gateway (AGEE)

Installation in user profile and upgrade
Receiver can be installed at user (each user install in their own user profile) or system level.How To Connect To Citrix Workspace
Whether Receiver was installed at user-level (installed by users in their own profiles), it is not supported to run a system-wide upgrade as administrator: every single user will have to upgrade Receiver by themselves.If Receiver was installed system-wide, users will not be able to upgrade that installation.
Downgrading Citrix Receiver
Downgrading Citrix Receiver is not supported.
Citrix Receiver Workspace App For Windows
If attempted at your own risk, ensure that the existing Version of Citrix Receiver is completely uninstalled before installing the older version.
You can use the Receiver Cleanup Utility for a clean uninstall.
Unsupported upgrade to Receiver 4.x
For Citrix Receiver versions that have reached end-of-life (EOL), are SUPPORTED for in-place upgrades, or that are not shown in Table 1, the recommended upgrade procedure is as below:
Record the existing customization to manually reconfigure it after the upgrade.

Install the latest Citrix Receiver for Windows available at https://www.citrix.com/downloads/citrix-receiver.html.
- Reconfigure the necessary customization recorded in Step 1 above.
Note: You may need to use 'Receiver Clean-Up Utility' as needed especially when problem occur during Receiver uninstall or when unexpected issues occur after install, regardless of the Receiver version you use.
